7." Looking back at your preliminary task, what do

You feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the main task?

 

At the beginning of this course I had already done media at GCSE, at GCSE I learnt how to use premiere pro and other forms of technology such as camera equipment. In my preliminary task a lot went wrong, we rendered the files incorrectly so we had deleted the audio and other various editing errors. In our actual task we were able to avoid these mistakes and had no problems with recording or editing, and were able to uses various editing techniques we had learnt throughout our course such as; the rule of thirds, over the sholder shot, point of view shot and other editing techniques like; jump cuts, cross cuts, fade to black and a ghosting effect. All of these were filmed but not all were used in the film.

 

However, due to harsh weather we encountered he had a whole new storyboard change. We were able to keep our basic plot and characters but we had to change scenery, this actually benefited us allowing us to film whenever we were free instead of waiting work similar weather and gave us the ability to control lighting effects as we did throughout our task. The different equipment we experimented with (seen in “Question 6”) allowed us to learn much more not only about how to use the equipment but what shots worked with different technologies, we originally wanted to use the GoPro within our film for the point of view shot but due to not organising our time properly we were unable to book it out. This is one of the things I feel we should have done differently and will change next year.

 

We faced a continuity error throughout our filming process, which was the hat the protagonist was wearing at the beginning and later on he doesn’t have it we were able to fix this with the hat throw done and eventually picked up by the antagonist. We had noticed while filming but we were already behind so we had to film and fix during editing. Another continuity error which was also concealed through editing was the protagonist’s change of trousers. All these continuity errors have taught us to prepare and make sure that all items of clothing are the same throughout.

 

We had many ideas while planning our thriller, they all included a thriller physiological hybrid but we did have creative differences how we would get this across, I personally voted for the voice over which we used in the end product, which created enigma codes.
